Special Session 23
Taming Multivariate Uncertainties: Advanced Stochastic Optimization and Control for Renewable Energy Systems
The global push towards carbon-neutrality is accelerating the construction of new-type power systems dominated by renewable energy. With the massive integration of inverter-based resources and diverse new loads, e.g., electrical vehicle, multivariate uncertainties have surged on both the generation and demand sides. This fundamental change presents unprecedented challenges to the safe and economic operation of power system. This session, "Taming Multivariate Uncertainties," is dedicated to the advanced stochastic optimization and control technologies essential for managing these intertwined complexities. The session will showcase cutting-edge methodologies, including data-driven chance-constrained programming, distributionally robust optimization, scalable stochastic model predictive control, and artificial intelligence (AI) based optimization and control, that offer superior decision-making ability for system operator to cope with multivariate uncertainties. This session aims to bridge theoretical advances with practical applications, fostering discussions for building more reliable, efficient, and controllable renewable-dominated grids. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:1. Advanced stochastic optimization for the planning and operation of power system and multi-energy systems.
2. Multi time-scale dispatch and control amid forecast errors.
3. AI based and data-driven optimization techniques for the operation of power system.
4. Modelling of security risk and vulnerability of power system considering uncertainties.
5. Enhancing grid resilience considering complex uncertainties.
6. Market design and demand response for renewable energy systems considering uncertainties.
